We know that sustainability is already a reality in the business world. As a result, Eco Marble has been seeking options to improve the quality of its production and achieve better utilization of waste and rejects. Contributing to economic and material development without harming the environment, using natural resources intelligently so that they can be sustained in the future, is the goal of Eco Mármore.
So, on August 17, 2018, Eco Marble was present at Senai/Cimatec in Salvador to participate in the Bege Bahia Sustainable Workshop.
The event took place throughout the afternoon and was attended by Bege Bahia Producers, professionals from the research field at the Federal University of Bahia, State University of Bahia, Engineers, Architects, the visual artist Bel Borba, representatives of Public Management, representatives of Assobege, Simagran, National Department of Mineral Production, and representatives from the National Industrial Learning Service.
The focus of the event was sustainability in Bege Bahia production. Cleaner production, waste utilization, and reuse of residues were discussed.
During the event, Luis Alberto Breda, Deputy Director of Technology and Innovation at SENAI Cimatec, called on participants to identify new ways and applications for the waste. “We are not looking for old solutions but new possibilities to reuse the dust and the block,” said the executive.
In the production of Bege Bahia Marble, part of the production is utilized, and the rest is waste. However, the idea is to make the entire chain sustainable, ensuring the utilization of the entire production.
Some of the viable products from the utilization of waste include ceramics, asphalt filler, fertilizer, and soil conditioner, according to Francisco Freire, Specialist in Chemical, Petrochemical, and Refining Processes at SENAI Cimatec. “There are several master’s dissertations and doctoral theses highlighting the advantages of using waste from the handling of ornamental stones. The question now is to develop a feasible way to reuse the residues,” Freire argues.
Eco Mármore Bege Bahia is highly interested in “cleaner” production, and we have already noticed that by following this parameter, humanity can ensure sustainable development.
For about a year now, we have been focusing on the production of mini coatings, which are products made from marble scraps that previously had no purpose. Today, in our product portfolio, we have coatings, mini tiles for mosaics, bricks, crushed stone, and rounded pebbles, all Bege Bahia products prepared from leftover stones and rejects. The Senai/Cimatec event has brought us new ideas and projects. We will be working closely with this institution, constantly seeking sustainable management and development. That is our focus!
